The family weekend of surprising science in the city is back for 2018 and this year it’s all about the wonder of engineering.

At the National Science and Media Museum, across City Park, Bradford and at The Broadway Bradford, enjoy activities, demos and games for all the family to get involved in, plus some amazing special guests.

Robot Zone at The Broadway

Discover the exciting world of robotics—find out how we control robots through engineering and coding, then meet some special robot guests!

ROBOTS LIVE

Experience the amazing spectacle that is robot combat! Featuring favourite robots from the BBC’s Robot Wars, Robots Live is packed with entertainment, including a battle arena and live engineering zone.

When: Robot displays will be available throughout the day, and 45-minute Robots Live shows will take place at 11.30 and 13.30.

MEET NAO

Come and see a fun demonstration from NAO, the world’s most popular humanoid robot, and find out how he can be used to aid education in primary schools.

When: Saturday 21 July only

MIND CONTROL SCALEXTRIC

What happens when you control a Scalextric car with your mind? Find out when you play your favourite racing game using only your thoughts!

ROBOTIC ENGINEERING SHOWS

The University of Central Lancashire’s Matt Dickerson will host exciting shows about the links between robots, science and engineering. Discover how to build a robot and how scientific research can bring superpowers to life!

When: 45-minute shows at 12.30 and 14.30

AUDIO ASSAULT BUGGY

The Audio Assault Buggy is loaded with strange and wonderful sonic weaponry. Try the Nose Test, make slinky laser-blasts, and experiment with acoustic objects.

LEEDS UNIVERSITY ROBOT DEMOS

An all-robot band, an arm that can play computer games, and robots moving around the human body using magnets… Explore weird and wonderful examples of robotic research from Leeds University.

OPEN BIONICS

Haptic communication recreates the sense of touch by applying forces, vibrations, or motions to the user. Investigate cutting-edge haptic robotics from the University of Leeds’ School of Mechanical Engineering.

All activity are FREE and taking place on 21 – 22 July unless specified.
