In 1969, the patrons of the Stonewall Inn in New York City’s Greenwich Village transformed a routine police raid into the beginning of the LGBT movement with three nights of rioting—an event which has since become a cornerstone of modern gay history. Before Stonewall moves through 20th Century history and examines the social and cultural context leading up to this sudden burst of political energy.
Before the feature we will play the short film, She Wanted Green Lawns (dir: Sarah Turner, 1989, 4mins, UK) and we will be joined by a member of Club Des Femmes to introduce the film.

Before Stonewall is currently touring UK cinemas as part of the Revolt She Said programme which has been curated by ICO and Club des Femme with the support of the Independent Cinema Office and BFI, awarding funds from The National Lottery.
