We celebrate the launch of the Scalarama Leeds 2018 programme, with a special screening of My Winnipeg at Left Bank, Leeds. This event is pay as you feel.
Homeless people on rooftops, a sleepwalking epidemic, Spanky the dog, a Nazi invasion and horses frozen in the Red River…
A documentary like no other, My Winnipeg was created to be both a heartfelt homage and critique of director Guy Maddin's home town in Manitoba. With his trademark mischievous unreliability and exotic myth-making, Maddin gleefully combines archive and re-created scenes of civic tragedy and strange local traditions, to present a very personal portrait of Winnipeg as a warm and enchanting historical fantasia of surreal film-making.
