Come warm yourself in the summer sun at the Solstice Shindig: Open Stage + BBQ!
It's been a long, hard winter & an unseasonably snowy Spring, but sod it, we've survived. The lush summer evenings are ‘pon us — the time is ripe to cut loose and indulge in wonder and whimsy at this extra spesh solstice shindig.
Our ritualistic-traditional-turning-of-the seasons-contemporary open stage sessions follow a much loved format, to include: specially selected cream o’ the crop featured artists (to be announced!) alongside the usual sharing of fledgling acts, spoken words, sweet musics, stories & song. Because we value co-creation, we will now also include a featured workshop at the start of each event, to ensure there's an opportunity for everyone to participate!
Please remember that the invitation is always there to come fill your lovely faces with wholesome, tasty veggie / vegan treats and drinkable things before the open stage kicks off at 8pm. In keeping with the sunshiney vibes the Open Source Arts Cafe will be firing up the BBQ for the very first time!
Early arrivees will have the option to take part in a sparkly sun dance, some socaerobics or a solstice salutation moment at the Rainbow Riddims
cosmic dancercise workshop! This event also features one extra treat, in the form of unique immersive performance The Way of the Mackerel, which you may experience from way down deep inside the belly of a gigantic colourful fish puppet!
Please join us friends of old and new. Bring us your rants, chants & comedy acts. Sing us folklore, tell us fairytales, dust off dirty ditties and questionable party tricks — we welcome all manner of assorted open stage sorcery. Basically, if you can do it in 5 minutes or less with very minimal setup / changeover time, and it fits on the large magic carpet we call the 'stage' (it's 4X2m approx!), yer in!
There are very limited slots available so please email [email protected]
in advance to sign up. All acts will be met with a friendly and supportive atmosphere, and minimal heckling ;)
