Have you got the skills needed to work in an operating theatre? Is there a budding surgeon in your family? Find out by taking part in Junior Surgeon this February Half Term.
These hands-on family workshops are perfect for inquisitive children who would like to know more about how their body works. With the help of an expert, you will be led through the dissection of a kidney to understand how it functions, before getting the chance to stitch it back together again using techniques used in real life surgery.
What will it cost?
Normal museum admission charges apply and there is an additional charge of £3 per kidney payable on arrival at the workshop. Don't forget that if you already have an annual ticket, then admission to the museum is free and you will only need to pay for the workshop.
Workshops will take place at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
How to book:
A limited number of places are available to book in advance and the rest will be available to sign up to on the day. Due to space restrictions, when booking your place we would ask that you only book one kidney per group rather than one kidney per child. Please note that children must be supervised by an adult. Adults may supervise up to 3 children, but we will only issue one scalpel per adult.
If you would like to reserve a place, please visit our website thackraymedicalmuseum.co.uk/what-s-on/family-activities.aspx/.
Once your place is reserved, you will then need to pay on arrival. Places cannot be held and if you have not arrived 5 minutes prior to the workshop start time, your place will be reallocated. Once advance reservations are fully booked, the remaining places will be available to book on arrival at the museum, on a first come first served basis. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
