Dr Kate Devlin, one of the UK’s foremost experts on human sexuality and technology, will walk us through the history of sex and tech before explaining where AI, Robotics, and sex and love meet today. During the lecture, Dr Devlin will examine the ethical and social implications of a future world where human computer interaction moves beyond the mouse and keyboard.
The talk will be followed fittingly with a screening of the Oscar nominated Lars and The Real Girl, the second feature by Craig Gillespie, the director of I, Tonya. Lars and The Real Girl tell's the story of a delusional yet lovable young man (played by Ryan Gosling) who strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll, Bianca, he finds on the internet. Lars' brother and sister in law are obviously more than a little worried about him but with the help of a local therapist they come to realise that Bianca is in town for a reason. Gillespie's film is a funny and heartwarming story about love and relationships and Gosling is fantastic in the title role.
