British Science Week @ Pit
A series of events at the National Coal Mining Museum celebrating British Science Week 2018.

Join us for a weekend special — our FREE explosive Science Show. This entertaining 30 minute show introduces you to some famous inventors and explains how the safety-flame lamp was invented and why it was so important to miners. Explosions guaranteed!
No need to book. Suitable for all the family.
Wacky Wednesday Science Special
Wed 14th March
10 — 11.30am
Is it Science or is it magic? Discover the science hidden in nursery rhymes and stories. Play and learn with hands-on activities. Sit back and enjoy a quirky shadow puppet show.
£5 per child, £5 per adult. Babies of 9 months and under are free.

Family Science Day: See How They Run
Sun 18th March from 11am
Our annual moving machinery day is back!
See some of our big machines running including the Dosco Roadheader, Ace Coalcutter & Eimco Rocker Shovel.
Book a unique See How They Run underground tour (£4 per person charge) to see some of our underground machinery working.
Take a train ride to Hope Pit (small fee applies) and take part in hands-on science experiments with our Education Team who’ll be looking at how we get coal from underground.
