Almost every morning innocent and beautiful animals, including pigs, cows and sheep are taken into John Penny and Son slaughter house confused, petrified and fighting for their lives. Noone survives and noone cares. The local community remains unaware of the horrors that are taking place right on their doorsteps, and those that are aware barely bat an eyelid as it is considered normal, natural and necessary to butcher animals to death for food. The industry and speciesism goes unchallenged. However, more recently, thanks to the Save movement, the slaughter house has come under the spotlight through people bearing witness to the animals going to slaughter. I fully support West Yorkshire Save and encourage others to do so. However, it must be made clear that these peaceful demonstrations are not part of the save movement and we do not bear witness. The aim of these events is simply to continue shining a light onto this cruel and barbaric industry, where one day all slaughter houses will be shut down forever. We need to continue raising awareness, gaining public support and promoting veganism. We can do this through regular and peaceful demonstrations during rush hour traffic, (early morning/late afternoon), when we will be most visible. By holding placards and bannars we can encourage people to watch edcational films such as Earthlings, Folks over Knives, Cowspiracy and What the Health. We can be clear in our aims that we want to stop the slaughter of innocent and beautiful animals whose only crime was to be born a different species to us. Peace can only begin when speciesism ends and that begins on our plates. Leo Tolstoy 1828 1910 said that, «As long as there are slaughter houses there will always be battlefeilds».
Banners and placards will be provided but please feel free to create your own.
Time is running out and we all need to rise up and speak out because without us there is no hope for the animals and no hope for the planet. I look forward to seeing you all there.
