We are offering tours of this historic site in Hunslet on Saturday and Sunday 9th and 10th of September as part of the 'National Heritage Open Days Scheme 2017'
Come along for guided tours around the Moor Road site from 10:00 and then hourly until 15:00. There is no need to book in advance for these.
These trips will take you through our history from the working of the coal outcrops in Middleton Woods in mediaeval times via the country’s first wooden (horse-drawn) railway in the eighteenth century and the revolutionary steam loco “Salamanca”, arguably, Leeds’ premier contribution to the Industrial Revolution, — to the present situation as the country‘s first standard-gauge preserved railway.
Our trains will also operate a normal service from 11:00 to 16:00, but a ticket purchase is required to travel on these. Normal fares apply. Diesel service on Saturday with Leeds built (Hudswell Clarke) vintage diesel 'Mary' and steam service on Sunday hauled by recently restored (thanks to the HLF!) Hunslet built 'Brookes no.1'
