Curing the King! An Investigation into the Tudor Apothecary
Henry VIII is very sick and he needs your help. Join the Tudor Wise Woman and learn all about Tudor Medicine
This two hour session uses both classroom and gallery-based activities to bring the Tudors to life. Children will start in the classroom where the context of their session is put into place through role play and interactive discussions.
The group will then move on to visit our Wilkinson Gallery and interact with our collection of historic apothecary jars whilst testing their investigative techniques.
Children will then return to the classroom and be taken on the adventure of a lifetime as they use historical enquiry and team work to learn about medical astrology, the four humours and have a go at creating some traditional cures of their own, in an attempt to cure one of history’s most notorious kings.
Workshop lasts 2 hours and is targetted at KS1 and KS2
£6.50 per child (aged 4+). Younger siblings free, but they will not be able to take part. Adults free.
If we fill the morning session we can have a second group beginning at 1.30pm.
