We are excited to be holding an event for Refugee Week, celebrating the contributions refugees make within our community and raising awareness about why people seek sanctuary and how we can help.
Join us for a special Saturday opening of our current exhibition, MIGRATION, with a programme of film screenings, a drop-in workshop and opportunities to find out about the work of Amnesty International and City of Sanctuary in the local area.
In partnership with Wakefield District City of Sanctuary and Amnesty International Wakefield Local Group.
On the day:
— Visit the studio of Zimbabwe-born, Wakefield-based artist Bryan Mucheriwa
— See the BAFTA-winning short film, HOME, directed by Daniel Mulloy (screenings at 10.30, 11.30, 12.30 and 13.30)
— Watch a series of short films, Migration and Resettlement, made by local refugees in collaboration with the University of Leeds
— Join a drop-in sewing workshop with our artist-in-residence, Veronica Ryan (10 am – 12 noon)
— Write letters for Amnesty International about the rights of refugees and asylum seekers, and find out more about the work of the Amnesty International Wakefield Local Group and Wakefield District City of Sanctuary
Light refreshments will be provided.
Any donations for Wakefield District City of Sanctuary would be most welcome. If you are able, please consider PAYING WITH PANTS! The organization is in particular need of jogging pants and new underwear for the Emergency Packs they provide for new asylum seekers in the area. Any monetary contributions will also be donated to Wakefield District City of Sanctuary.
