Hockney at the Square
Friday 7th July
Talk at 7pm with nibbles by Plenty at the Square and refreshments
Celebrate David Hockney’s 80th Birthday at South Square Centre. Don’t miss this exclusive chance to view some uncommon examples of Bradford’s most-loved artist’s work.
For one weekend only, South Square Centre provides a rare opportunity to see some of Hockney’s lesser known etchings and lithographs. This pop-up exhibition features work from Hockney’s illustrations of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, and the Cavafy series; featuring works inspired by the poems of C.P Cavafy.
The exhibition is hosted with the kind permission of long-term South Square resident fine art framer Andy Rushworth. Andy will give a presentation and insight into what inspired Hockey to make works featured in the show.
**** Please be aware that the exhibition contains nudity and adult content*******
Attendance to the talk is free but booking is essential, to book your place either call 01274 834747 or sign up via eventbrite.

Everyone is also welcome to attend the launch of a new exhibition in main gallery (7-9pm) featuring works by local artists Amrik Varkalis and Lesley Wall. On the night there will be tasty snacks and food available to purchase from Plenty, who have recently taken on the centre’s vegetarian cafe. Also take the opportunity to visit and have a drink at the recently opened bar The Cobbles.
The Tulip Majumba Experience
Exhibition Opens: 07 July 2017 7-9pm
Amrik Varkalis is an established painter and printmaker, she takes elements of contemporary society and experience to produce work that is collected and admired. Lesley Wall is a contemporary and conceptual Fine Artist who works with paint, print and photography; she is interested in process and viewers perceptions of her work. This collaboration brings together both artists’ work in order to explore and compare their different approaches to creative practice.
Amrik and Lesley have put their individual processes under the microscope and over the last year, they have challenged each other through continual conversation and critique, to examine their motivations as artists. They are also interested in how commercial and conceptual art making intersects and overlaps.
