Junk Boat Building is one of the fun highlights of the Leeds Waterfront Festival! Last year we managed to get 3 wierd and wonderful crafts on the water and sail the all the way down the canal to Granary Wharf....and guess what no one sank! Although it was a little hairy at times, it was great fun and a real spectacle...this year we hope to increase the number of boats we float so we are calling on the good people of Leeds to come and get involved and join our teams of avid creators to build boats!
Boat building takes place on Saturday 24th June at Castleton Mill and final touches, the launch and sailing down the canal will be on Sunday 25th June. You can join us with a team of friends or come along on your own and join our mixed bunch. You dont need any particular skills or tools (although these will be handy!), bags of enthusiasm is all you need (and we supply the life jackets hehe!!!).
Junk Boat building is brought to you by the awesome bunch at Open Source Arts and the Leeds City Council Recycling Centre who supply the recycled materials for building. Open Source Arts will be on hand to get those boats built and afloat over the weekend.
Fancy a challenge? Drop us a line to register at [email protected]
and please do come along and see our boats set sail down the canal at 1.30pm on 25th June, you can walk along with the crowds of supporters...it'll be a blast!
